Services

We believe in a continuum of care that respects dignity and promotes healing. We support participants to heal and stabilize their lives with agency.

Outreach

Since 2022, our outreach team has provided responsible, compassionate, person-centered harm reduction services to our city’s most vulnerable populations and specifically to individuals who are at risk of substance use-related harms. This involves delivering education on safer substance use practices, overdose prevention and response, and distributing essential supplies. Our outreach also involves meeting people where they are, providing judgment-free care, and creating a dignified, respectful environment for individuals who use drugs, while offering support and reducing stigma.

Our outreach efforts are funded through National Opioid Settlement funds via a grant from the Indiana Department of Mental Health and Addictions, as well as the Family and Social Services Administration.

As a trusted community resource, we act as a liaison between individuals and local health and service organizations, bridging gaps in care by linking clients to treatment and recovery resources. This includes collaborating with community stakeholders, coordinating with local agencies, and assisting individuals in navigating healthcare and social service systems.

Our outreach plays a key role in reducing stigma, preventing overdose deaths, and improving health outcomes -- which fosters stabilization and healing in a supportive environment. We meet people where they’re at with compassion and care.

Naloxone Distribution & Training

In 2021, we launched our first 24/7, self-serve, anonymous Naloxbox and have since expanded to other locations throughout the community, including a naloxone vending machine at Ball Memorial Hospital, with support from local & statewide community partnerships and grants.

Since bringing naloxone into the Muncie community in 2021, there has been an estimated decrease in overdose deaths to 47.62%

Besides naloxone distribution, we also hold kit packing events, trainings, and support.

Laundry Outreach

In 2025, we started a free laundry initiative for individuals who are experiencing homelessness, as well as for low-income families. During laundry time, we are able to connect with individuals on a more basic level. We are also able to provide referral services, connect families and individuals to community partners and resources, as well as provide basic harm reduction supplies and gear.

Laundry is held on the second Friday of every month, from 5-7PM. If you’re interested in this service, please call or text 765-215-2230 for location and more information.

Our laundry nights are often sponsored by different area organizations and businesses. If you or your organization are interested in sponsoring a night, please send us an email at munciefolk@gmail.com

Sharps Services & Pickup

In 2024, we placed our first sharps container in the parking lot of Friends Church (now Recovery Cafe). In 2025, we placed our second sharps container at Maring-Hunt Library. These large syringe disposal boxes are used by the public and promote safe, responsible syringe disposal in our community. We have them professionally emptied and taken care of on a regular basis.

Used syringes are often found in public spaces. We provide free syringe pick up and disposal upon request by simply calling or texting 765-215-2230.

Community Engagement

Muncie Folk Collective holds free, quarterly Naloxone Administration trainings that equip individuals with the knowledge and confidence to respond to an overdose and increase awareness of Indiana’s Aaron’s Law. Additionally, we offer other trainings to the general public, first responders, and community organizations, such as Marcro-B trainings. These training sessions typically cover stigma, harm reduction, the importance of non-coercive and person-centered support, and best practices for engaging with individuals affected by substance use.

We frequently table at community events as well! If you’re holding an event and think we would be a good resource to have at it, please email us at Munciefolk@gmail.com
